I heard (possibly from Celinda or Lenita) that Bumpa Templeton bought the Land because he could get such a large lot inexpensively. I was always impressed (at 7 years old) that it was their grandfather who bought the Land -- in the primordial distant past.

Bumpa liked to speak from Mark 11 when he spoke at chapel in Via.

It was neat to see Bumpa happy again when he started dating Marcy.

And he followed Grandma's advice.....he lost weight.

I don't think you can blame a guy from Norfolk for regaining lost weight when he marries a cook from Minnesota.

So, the mission needed the goody two shoes Taylors....Grandpa and Grandma would drive all the way to Recife to challenge churches as to tribal work.....and you needed Clayton, who could get a $29 ticket to Miami using Monark......not Caloi. "You mean, they went by bike?"

Do you remember the story when a kid tried to rob Clayton on the streets of São Paulo, and Clayton happened to be carrying mace?

I don't remember all the details.....but, "Aquele senhor virou, falou alguma coisa, e o rapaz caiu no chão!"

I've learned more about Grandpa and Grandma Taylor while sitting around the kitchen table in Charlotte than I ever learned in Jacutinga. Alton and Derly have the most wonderful anecdotes about the way ..... for instance, I learned that my grandmother made a successful push to get all of Jacutinga's sanitation crew dressed in nice uniforms. Alton told me that Grandpa flew him from Goiânia in the small plane, landed in the middle of the street of a small town in the boondocks of Goiás, helped him find a place to stay ("you can take a bath in the creek"), and then told him he would be back in a week to pick Alton up.... Grandpa told Alton to evangelize....and Alton had just arrived in Brazil and couldn't speak Portuguese. And then Grandpa took off in the plane.....leaving Alton there.....and came back in a week.
