Thank you for all this analysis.
Very disheartening.
Very disturbing.
Very unjust.
To think of Tambo being like that when it was very much appreciated by most all of our family,
but NOT ALL.
And some strange things did happen.
And some sad things.
And now we find out that much more happened when we were there.
AND after.
It's horrendous!
And we read stories from Panama and from East Brazil.
We agonized with those MKs.
And what did the reports show? Almost nothing!
GRACE must have been a divine mistake. A divine appointment.
Kari, you and your sister and your folks and Bonnie wrote eloquently and bravely confronted leaders.
After 7 1/2 years its still going on?
You turned the spotlight ON.
You and others who told their stories and shared.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

Dreamwords, you were so methodical, kind and persistent.
Very firm and courageous in your stand.
You turned the spotlight UP.
And what happened?
THEY WIGGLED OUT AGAIN!

Some facts and figures from IHART's Bolivia Historical Investigation Summary Report.

Time frame investigated - 1952 to 2003

Total number of students who studied at NTM's school at Tambo during that period of time - over 1,000

Number of contacts made by IHART with MKs, MK parents and Tambo staff - over 300

Number of MKs interviewed by IHART - approximately 245

Number of allegations of physical abuse - 63

Number of physical abuse reports confirmed by the IHART team - 41

Number of allegations of (only) emotional abuse - 50

Number of emotional abuse reports confirmed by the IHART team - 37

Number of allegations of sexual abuse - 75

Number of sexual abuse reports confirmed by the IHART team - 50

Number of individuals found by IHART to have some level of misconduct - 31
- 11 of these are already deceased
- 5 of these were mission leaders found to be culpable
(some of those leaders were also in the alleged offender group)
- 13 of these were involved in sexual abuse, which according to IHART's report "involved touching"

Number of the 31 individuals "found with culpability" who were determined by NTM to require dismissal from the mission - 16
- current members with findings at this level were dismissed (no names and no numbers given)
- 6 had been previously dismissed
- 6 of these individuals were deceased

Number of the 31 individuals whose culpability did not require dismissal - 15
- 5 were deceased
- the remaining were "reprimanded"

By far the most egregious failing in IHART's report on Tambo is the dismissive way in which it treats the sexual abuse that many of us know went on at that isolated boarding school.

IHART says it received 75 allegations of sexual abuse. It says it "reached a finding by a preponderance of the evidence" of 50 of those sexual abuse allegations. And yet, when referring to that disturbingly high number of findings of sexual abuse, this is what the report says:

"All of the allegations of sexual abuse that involved touching, and for which there was a finding
by a preponderance of the evidence, were attributed to 13 AOs. Some were previously dismissed
and/or deceased."

SEXUAL ABUSE THAT INVOLVED TOUCHING??

Small boys were anally raped at Tambo, Theresa! And you know it!!

I cannot get this man's picture out of my mind:

New Tribes Mission, you want the world to think that the only sexual abuse that ever occurred at Tambo "involved touching"? I will not stand for it! For the sake of the MKs who have suffered for decades because of what was done to them at Tambo -- suffered not only mentally/emotionally, but even physically as well! -- I will not stand for this deceptiveness!

The world needs to know the truth! The world needs to know the rottenness you are trying to keep hidden!

Fifty allegations of sexual abuse, and 13 offenders confirmed by IHART, and you want to reduce it all to "sexual abuse that involved touching"???

No, no, no! We are not going to let you get away with this!

The silence of the survivors crushes my hopes for any adequate response from those who took away the voices of my fellow MKs.

You speak so eloquently of the effects of the abuse of innocent children, threewillows.

My heart is broken, my mind keeps churning, and my fingers will do more tapping on the keys of my computer.

This is not over yet.

IHART Progress Report

From Pat Hendrix

.........

Tambo:

The scope of the investigation covers 1959 – 2004 when the school was closed. The investigators have 1056 student names to attempt contact, which includes some staff as possible witnesses/survivors and or perpetrators. This does not include other adult staff members. Early January, 2013, 49 US mailings went out along with some e-mails. So far, in January, 14 MK’s have requested interviews. With the scope of this investigation, we expect this investigation to last 2-3 years.
The alleged perpetrator list has 42 names taken from the interviews I have which are not all.

......

For comparison, from the IHART report produced by Theresa Sidebotham last month:

Pat said the scope of IHART's investigation would be from 1959-2004, and they had names of 1,056 students to attempt to contact.

As of January 2013, Pat already had a perpetrator list with 42 names on it!

At that point, they had just only begun to scratch the surface in their investigation process.

By the time Theresa finished the process, 245 MKs from Tambo had been interviewed.

31 people were found to have "some level of misconduct". 15 of those were not deemed to deserve dismissal from NTM.

So it would appear to me that out of the 42 people whose names were already on a list three years ago, plus however many more were added in the years following, in the end, only 16 people "had actions that were determined to be at a level that required dismissal by NTM policy standards".

These numbers speak for themselves, as far as I am concerned.
