IHART Progress Report
January 23, 2013

The Vianopolis investigation began in May, 2011, The Tambo and Panama investigations began in January, 2012. Following is an update on each investigation.

Vianopolis:

The scope of the investigation covers the fall of 1983 – summer of 1993.
At the present time, nearly all individuals who have expressed a desire to provide information concerning abuse at the Boarding School, Vianopolis, Brazil have been contacted and interviewed. A few remain to corroborate information already obtained. The review, analysis, and consolidation of information are ongoing and individuals requiring interviews continue to be identified. The interviews continue and those remaining will be conducted and completed in January and February 2013.

As various aspects of the investigation come together, portions of the Statement of Findings are being completed. It is anticipated that the investigation will be completed, and a final Statement of Findings submitted in March 2013.

Tambo:

The scope of the investigation covers 1959 – 2004 when the school was closed. The investigators have 1056 student names to attempt contact, which includes some staff as possible witnesses/survivors and or perpetrators. This does not include other adult staff members. Early January, 2013, 49 US mailings went out along with some e-mails. So far, in January, 14 MK’s have requested interviews. With the scope of this investigation, we expect this investigation to last 2-3 years.
The alleged perpetrator list has 42 names taken from the interviews I have which are not all.

Panama:

The scope of the investigation runs from 1962 – 2006. During the month of December two interviews were conducted. The holiday season, inclement weather, travel, and illness contributed to the small number of interviews conducted in December, both for those to be interviewed and for the Pii staff.
The team is doing everything they can to be finished by mid to late summer 2013.

Abuse reports from 1959 to 2004!

Over 1,000 students to be contacted (if possible), as possible victims or witnesses!

The magnitude of this investigation is such that Pat Hendrix expects it to last 2-3 years! Since she has been pretty far off on other estimates, and this investigation is already a year old, I am thinking another 3-4 years from now may be more realistic.

THE ALLEGED PERPETRATOR LIST ALREADY HAS 42 NAMES ON IT, WITH MORE EXPECTED!!!

At least 42 people at Tambo over a 5-decade period abused or molested innocent children.

FORTY-TWO!!!

Dear God in Heaven!

I feel like I need to vomit.

I also keep hearing of more abusers from where I grew up. It is a terrible history for the church.

And that 42 is just from the one school?

What does it take to be classed as a pedophile ring?

Sheesh and this was a missionary school run by supposed christians part of a supposed christian organisation.

This is just crazy scary stuff.

When I was a kid I was a bit jealous of the missionaries from our Church whose kids when to an NTM school. I thought it must be so much fun going to a christian school where everyone would be nice. My high school was the worst in my city, lots of fights and drugs for sale. I was scared of a lot of the kids who you dare not even look at. Oh how I was the lucky one!!!!

That is exactly what anyone with an objective non religous viewpoint is going to see this as, a paedophile ring. Forget all the well meaning missionaries that were just doing their job, everyone who hasn't taken a clear stand against this scandal and is still associated with or was associated with NTM will be tarred with the same brush. With so many individuals implicated, it will be "guilty till proven innocent" and "guilt by association".

Of course we all knew our parents really well and they would never have been involved in anything like this, right? Well somebodies parents were involved (unless these were all single missionaries, no that's not very likely). How well do we really know what our parents, our neighbours, the leaders were up to?
From personal experience I knew the tip of the iceberg up until I joined Fanda Eagles 18 months ago. Now I know part of what is under the water, but what else is still being covered up?
This is one big mess, it should never have happened and now there is a price to pay.

My family was at Tambo in the early 90's (when both Rich Hine and Bob Fischer were dismissed from NTM). There were staff members that truly loved and nurtured the kids but, unfortunately, several of the staff were harsh, legalistic and unloving. The kids at Tambo were a wonderful bunch and didn't deserve to live in an atmosphere of "guilty until proven innocent." Half hours and swats were given for the smallest offenses (my son got in trouble one time for saying his Bible verse to the wrong person and another time for scratching his head during a test). My husband was very outspoken about the excessive punishment and even met with the Field Committee about it when attempts with the school leadership lead nowhere. It didn't make us popular with some at the school and we were turned down when we requested staying a third year. I really loved those kids and it was heartbreaking to leave them. Several of my family have met with the investigators and even though it may take some time, I am hopeful that people will be held accountable.
Forty-two so far, it makes me want to weep.

This is a good picture of how it was.

42......oh how God weeps. He gave us everything and all he wants in return is US. Our Faith, Trust, Love and Obedience. And in return these sinners claiming to work for and serve God have hurt God's prescious children. The wrath of God on these men and/or women scares me and I am a victim.

Question: of the subject but not....does anyone know why Panama is now going all the way back to 1962 in their investigation???
