Supplementary questions:
Did, because of your country of origin, skin colour or some other distinguishing feature find that you were treated differently from other missionaries?
Did you find that the assignments you were given due to this were different than what the majority would be expected to do?
Did your mental health suffer to such an extent that you had a mental breakdown because you were pushed beyond reasonable limits?
Did any discrimination you suffered effect your own childrens well being and/or were they subjected to similar experiences?
Did you find when you objected to such discrimination, that you were told it was "standard behaviour" for the majority to treat a minority in such a fashion, or were you ignored, blackmailed or threatened?
Did you have concerns about some of the attitudes to the indigenous populatons by other missionaries?

Bemused, Your well formulated questions say tons and opens a whole area of investigation in the area of aspersion, belittlement and discrimination. I am turly sorry for all you had to go through and put up with. Thanks for the input!

Thank you for that. One thing I remember from my childhood, was that the only non-white U.S. missionary always stayed with us, "them from Downunder", when she came out of the tribe. My parents may have had faults, but they never noticed what color someone was, it just didn't matter. Always struck me as odd that we were guests in a country that was 99% dark skinned with the purpose of "helping them", yet we lived next to neighbours who made no secret of their prejudices and were taught by a principal who had the most bizzare views on racial issues (would have made Hitler proud). I've asked myself for the last 30 years, what actually motivated some of these people to be missionaries in the first place, alas I think we are finding out. For some it was because they wanted to be a big fish in a small pond and for some it now is evident that they fulfilled their evil desires.

Yes, Very sad! Some of my own children were also "turned off" to missions--especially NTM-- because of the bad testimony, inconsistencies, and double standards that they saw and experienced through the years. Very sad! Thanks for sharing Pamela!

More questions:

Was the abuse reported to the proper authorities (foreign, US)?

How long did it take before the incident was reported to:

The field leadership?
The executive board?
The foreign authorities?
The US authorities?
