"GRACE recommends that NTM review its current child protection policies." GRACE report, page 64

This certainly seems overdue. In fact, one has to wonder about the viability of an organization that requires a third party to tell it something so blatantly obvious.

I hope that any review and revision of current child protection policies will include a provision to report ALL cases of child abuse to local law enforecement agencies in the countries where the abuse occured, as well as in the passport country of the offender. This should be done whether or not such reports are strictly required by applicable laws.

I admit that some countries have very severe punishments for these crimes. All missionaries should be made aware of the possible punishments in their country of service, and warned that NTM will not assist them in avoiding the consequences of their actions.

If this seems frightening to missionaries who would engage in such actions, it should. Civil authorities are a terror to those who do evil (Romans 13.3).

"GRACE recommends Scott Ross be permanently removed from any and all work and/or responsibilities relating to any form of child abuse matters within New Tribes Mission." GRACE report, page 64

I would suggest that, if NTM sees fit to adopt this recommendation, that NTM also stipulate that Scott Ross must refrain from ANY and ALL work and/or responsibilities relating to any form of child abuse matters outside of NTM as well, or face termination of membership.

If NTM doesn't think Scott Ross should be helping NTM with these matters, they should not allow him to do so outside of NTM while still enjoying his status as lead house-counsel and ordained minister/ missionary.

Completely agree. I am shocked and concerned at the fact that it was not recommended for Scott Ross to be terminated. Considering all he has NOT done...

GRACE update today:

At this point, GRACE has not been asked to investigate the other boarding school abuse complaints. It is our understanding that at this point, the NTM Child Protection Committee will oversee such investigations and will hire an investigator who will answer to the Committee. GRACE did not recommend handling these other boarding school abuse matters in this manner.

This is VERY disturbing news. I am recommending we get a petition going to demand the mission reconsider this decision to not go forward with GRACE. One person is already in contact with Larry Brown on this matter. Let's wait and see what his response is here in the next few days. Meanwhile, we should each start fashioning a polite, but to the point letter asking the Mission to reconsider. We can all tell where this will go if an outside entity is not involved!! GRACE has already gained the respect of us MKs for how they handled the Fanda report. Some have already begun sending their stories to GRACE.

I smell a rat!

The CPC is NOT QUALIFIED to handle these investigations. Just look at their history...

Is there a possibility that the victims can hire GRACE to represent them in Arbitration or a civil lawsuit?
NTM - we don't trust you!

NTM is scared and they should be. If anyone was outraged by what the Fanda report said they will be throwing up by the time they read the reports from the other schools. NTM has a whole lot to lose if the other schools are looked into. The MKs should be given the right to keep GRACE if they want. If it has to go to a petition I will sign it for you.
