Scathing sarcasm makes us laugh, not because it is funny in a sense, but because, by coming at the issue from a different perspective than we normally take, it shows exactly how foolish its object is.

I agree with Raz. I winced when I read the email about Frank Parker. Because he has precious children. They are living, feeling individuals - they have been brokenhearted as well by their father's sins. I don't know how they've responded to others, whether appropriately or not, but their wounds are so deep. I hated Frank as a child. I loathed him. But his kids are not dead - and we are hurting them when we speak lightly of him in death.
I think the author is very very wounded and angry - and I don't fault him. He may not have even been shooting for humor - just a sarcastic, not-far-from-the-truth portrayal of NTM's stony hardhearted response.
How many times has it been said on this forum? "Hurt people hurt people."

I think the person who wrote it was illustrating in a satirical way NTM´s traditional response to stuff like this.

However, point very well taken, I maybe haven´t tread cautiously(sp?) enough with this and I ask for forgiveness if someone already hurting was hurt more by seeming flippancy.

There have been points in my own journey where at times, it´s been nice to laugh in the darkest moments - maybe it´s an inbuilt steam valve - and I´ve found myself laughing over things that really are not funny - and it´s been refreshing to laugh and move on. I bet every one on this forum, though, that all who have posted here do not think ANY of the situations in ANY of the boarding schools comical - and I would bet that a good number here also do not really want to hurt anyone. There´s a blind rage, sometimes, that fills you and makes you willing to lash out at any cost (speaking from personal experience here), but noone is truly happy with the consequences strewn around them once they wake up and see what´s happened.

FP and LE and the others have kids, we´ve seen what gutsy kids they do have - and I am so sorry that life has happened this way to them - I cannot FATHOM what they´ve had to deal with and if we ever meet up, they will be welcome to pull up a chair and sit at my table, there´s a chance we may have to laugh some too, just to get over the hard parts.

I think I would need some adult beverages on the table too, but yes, I would even pay for a nice chat. My grandfather was a pedophile--we left for Brazil when I was ten, just as he started to get interested in taking little peeks and touches. He definitely was ready for heaven, he was pulling off his oxygen and taking out his IV's as fast as they put them in . . . . No jail time served. My grandmother suffered a lot of mental anguish and died 20 years earlier. I'm glad he's in a place where he has no inappropriate desires, and am looking forward to seeing him again in a much better place.

Thanks for the discussion, guys. I've been receiving more of the same kind of emails, and I've decided not to post them. Yes, it made me laugh, not at Frank Parker, or his family, because it is all beyond sad. However, the humor bit came in in regards to the (laughable) response (or lack thereof) of NTM over MANY years. I found humor in the author's portrayal of NTM trying to never incriminate itself, paint itself in a spiritual light, and yet, as we've all learned to do, seeing through it all to it's inability to be taken seriously.

Once I posted the first e-mail, I got to feeling rather badly about it. I want to apologize for doing so.

I've been trying to find the story that WESH channel 2 news did on the lawsuit May 22 at 6pm but can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know where it is or did anyone see it on TV?
