Mr. Brown:

The Grace Report released August 2010, page 65, recommended that a Comprehensive
Leadership Inventory and Inquiry be made “…with every current member of the mission and
every individual who has left the mission within the past five years for the purpose of”:

1. Conducting a thorough inquiry to obtain truthful and objective data regarding current
leadership philosophies and styles of every NTM field and those who serve on the
Executive Board.

2. Acquiring information regarding any and all acts of leadership that may be categorized as
abusive.

3. Demonstrating authentic repentance to members and non-members who have been (or
currently are) hurt by such abuse in leadership.

My wife and I fit the category of: individuals who have left the mission within the past five
years. Since this part of the report “included” us--and many others--I have a few questions
and suggestions:

1. Is the mission really interested in obtaining truthful and objective data regarding
leadership styles and philosophies of the past from its former “wounded” members?
a. It has been over 15 months now since the report was issued and we have heard
nothing from NTM.

2. Are you planning on conducting this inquiry?
a. According to your own estimations a few years back, in the past 5 years about 400
people alone have left the mission. It seems like it would be in the interest of the
mission to find out the reasons why many of those resigned.

3. Do you need help formulating this inquiry?
a. I’m sure there many former NTM’ers who would be glad to give you all a hand in this.

4. When (and if) you release this inquiry will it be sent “retroactive” to the ones who with
the mission at the time the report was issued?
a. The missionaries who were just at the five year mark a year ago are no longer there
today and would not meet the criteria if the questionnaire was sent only to the ones
who are at that “mark” today.

Mr. Brown:

We have a beautiful plaque, awarded to us by the Executive Board, hanging on a wall in our home that reads: ”NTM… In appreciation of twenty-eight years of faithful service”. We were around NTM long enough to know that there are/were a lot of “good” people there who wanted to “give their all” to reaching the last tribe until the last one is reached…

But… I know that from what we experienced during those twenty-eight years, saw, and now read on these blogs that something went very “sour” with NTM over the years.

Isn’t it ironic that the very truths that we learned in training... Acknowledgement of wrong… confession… repentance… and restitution… that are all part of the process to healing broken relationships, NTM has failed to put into practice. We learned in “culture” classes in the training, that ALL societies of the world have some form of payment to “set the record straight” and restore broken relationships between offended parties. Why hasn’t NTM done the same?

Mr. Brown, there is enough evidence on this forum and the blog to KNOW and PROVE beyond the shadow of a doubt that the Executive Board and ALL the leadership of NTM need to “rend your hearts and not your clothes…” And to humble yourselves before God and PRAY and SEEK GOD’s FACE and TRUN--a 180 degree turnabout-- and return to the God of our Fathers, who is still the same yesterday, today and forever!

But at that point, you didn't know all you know now.

Forgot to say, Elijah III, thanks for working on the questionnaire.
We, also, were wondering where it is.
However, isn't there something about creating a safe place first for former and current NTM people to be able to speak?
One could really get in trouble filling out a questionnaire without a safe place.
Unless they are already in trouble.
Or the trouble is past.
But Gene Long must have thought his trouble was past after one year.
Little did he know it had just begun!

I got a nice certificate, but not a plaque. Of course, I was only in for 25 years. My son, who was in for about five years, got a letter...

They always wait until you leave to tell you how much they appreciate you....
