I was thrilled the other day when I opened up the conversation about abuse at Tambo with my mom. She actually listened and had a conversation with me about it. Agreeing that the staff were to blame, in the story I was telling her about, no matter how the child was acting the men knew better than to abuse the student. My first open conversation with a mom that would listen. It is a start. She even listened as I mentioned people that had been their friends for years, as being abusers. Wow, maybe I got somewhere with her!!

That is very encouraging! I am thankful to hear of your Mom's open ears and open spirit! She is in a very scary position, coming to grips with unnecessary pain suffered by children as a result of choices she made. It's very hard to be that Mom. I know.
I pray the communication will continue, and will be very healing for you.

I've been encouraged with conversations with my Mom too lately, with her actually beginning to understand what it was like for us kids to be sent away (abandoned) so young and how we were so vulnerable.

dbarney and Agast...this is progress. How encouraging to hear about your moms starting to open their hearts and minds.
