Professional Investigators International dared to dream a very big dream, which was that they could continue to help shine the light of truth into some very dark places.

They hoped to be able to raise enough funds that they could pursue investigations into cases of abuse, free of charge to victim-survivors, and without binding confidentiality agreements with organizations which were not willing to let the truth be told about abuse that had occurred within their groups or locations.

Today, Pii and the PiiSafe Foundation have announced that they have had to suspend all their activities and efforts, due to being unable to obtain the funding they needed to freely pursue their vision, with no strings attached.

This is a sad day for those of us who continue in our feeble efforts to expose abuse and cover-up, specifically in the New Tribes Mission environment.

Here is the announcement made today by Pii and the PiiSafe Foundation:

"To Our Friends and Colleagues,

Over the past 5 years, Professional Investigators International has set the standard in abuse investigations. Pii has tirelessly and fearlessly sought the truth with no agenda and allowing no outside influence.

With the exception of the ABWE/Donn Ketcham Investigation, much of the investigative truth discovered was unable to be released publicly by Pii due to binding confidentiality agreements. Therefore, Pii’s work and findings remain in the arbitrary hands of the organizations that hired Pii. To date, nothing has come forward, resulting in the appearance that the organizations and their legal counsel were more determined to protect themselves than they were to help the victims they were complicit in abusing.

Because of these years-long obfuscations, Pii decided that, in order to be free to release Pii’s findings of truth according to the Standards of Evidence to the public, Pii needed to seek its own funding, and thus, the PiiSafe Foundation was organized. Providing a way to accept donations to continue the work was the only way to be fully able to help victim-survivors know, and then deal with, the truths at hand. That level of funding never came.

It is, therefore, with great sadness that Professional Investigators International and the PiiSafe Foundation are suspending all activities moving forward.

Pii would like to thank all those who shared the vision of the Pii team in trying to bring to light the abuse and injustice that has occurred in the lives of so many victim-survivors and in some cases, the falsely accused. The hearts of the Pii team will forever be with those individuals with whom the team shared tears during the investigations completed and also with those whom our organization was not yet able to help.

VERY sad!

I not sad at all. Didn't think it would work from the start!
I learnt long ago not to trust many people, then you don't get too disappointed if they try and rip you off or let you down! And as soon as I see that NTM is involved somewhere in something, I get very wary!

The only people I know who have put NTM in it's place have either enlisted the help of the courts or highpowered law enforcement!
We are stupid if we think the only people who can get NTM to do the right thing are other Christians! Haven't we figured it out that Christians are to sympathetic to their own and much more likely to cover things up than expose them?

The law is the thing.

We had such high hopes that Pii's report on ABWE abuse would alter the course of MK abuse response around the world, particularly in regard to NTM/Ethnos360's response.

Kathryn Joyce has written an excellent article about the ABWE story. She focuses on one specific victim/survivor, but as we know, Donn Ketcham had many child victims in Bangladesh.

I applaud the courage of the staff of (the now closed) Professional Investigators International. As the scope of MK abuse became clearer to them, they asserted their true independence, and boldly described the abuse they uncovered.

I am thankful that the current leadership of ABWE decided to let the truth about Ketcham's abuse and ABWE's cover-up be exposed. This has led to vindication for their MK survivors, and very importantly has led to Ketcham's arrest, and an upcoming prosecution which will hopefully result in his much deserved incarceration.

NTM/Ethos360 had a different response to Pii's hard-hitting report on abuse at NTM's MK school in Panama. They fired Pii and turned the investigation over to Theresa Sidebotham. The resulting report released by her is much, much different than the one on the ABWE situation.

The two reports really should be examined side-by-side, to compare the stark differences. ABWE showed us what could have been. NTM/Ethnos360 gambled on the hope that they could continue to conceal from the public, their members, and their financial backers, what happened to their children in Panama.

They gambled, and they won.

Until someone stands up to NTM/Ethnos360 about this miscarriage of justice, they will get away with it.

No game change after all.

When the GRACE report came out I had hope, but over the too many years I've concluded that the only way NTM/E360 will have their remaining dirty laundry brought out into the open would be when a hound of a journalist does enough digging, grabs the laundry NTM/E360 tried to bury by the teeth, and piles it in the public square. Then they will have to deal with it. As long as the organization gets to call the shots on what gets investigated, how it is reported, and who gets the report, no justice or recompense of any significance may occur.

Perhaps there will be a miraculous moment of open, transparent repentance without this, but call me Thomas on that one.
