Since late 2014, Theresa Sidebotham has been assuring us that great progress is being made in the investigations into abuse in Bolivia and Panama (the investigations were begun in December, 2011, and January, 2012, respectively).
The June, 2016 progress report is no exception. Again, Theresa cheerfully reports on the progress being made by IHART and their investigative teams and report writers.
http://www.ihart.care/progress.htmlExcerpt from this latest report:
"We continue towards final write-ups for both the Panama and Bolivia fields. An individual who has alleged abuse will receive a personalized Statement of Findings, as well as correspondence from IHART and NTM. ... We also plan to have a comprehensive Summary Report of the investigation which will be made publicly available.
..... The plan is to have a comprehensive Summary Report that will allow readers to gain an overall understanding of the situation in Panama in the eras that were investigated, and an understanding of how the mission's culture affected MKs and families, as well as information as to what happened with respect to abuse."
I repeat my prediction that a "personalized Statement of Findings" will contain basically the information given to interviewers by a victim/survivor. This is what the reports sent to MKs from Vianopolis contained. It was terribly frustrating and disappointing for MKs to read these reports, as they contained little information about what might have happened to other MKs who were victimized by their abuser/s. This does not paint a complete picture, and MKs commented that they already know what their own story was, and did not need to wait years to read about themselves and not about other schoolmates or dorm mates who experienced similar abuse.
I also predict that the second paragraph above is preparing us for the fact that "an understanding of the situation in Panama in the eras investigated", and "an understanding of the mission's culture", will not read anything like Pii's scathing report on the culture of ABWE and how that mission's culture created re-abuse of victims and the protection of Donn Ketcham and the mission leaders who coddled him. On the contrary, I expect Theresa to make excuses for not only the abuse that occurred but also for the dismal response of NTM leaders who knew about what was happening to the innocent children of their missionaries.
I do hope we will finally see, very soon, these results Theresa keeps promising. Perhaps my predictions will be wrong.
That would be a day of rejoicing for me. I would be very pleased to be proven wrong.
