Thanks Mrs M for the info on the petition. I posted it to my face book profile so I can keep updated on it.

Is anyone else having trouble accessing the petition? I am.

There have been some questions raised as to whether or not there is "continuing abuse" in the schools/ dorms run/ used by NTM.

I am certainly not in a postion to know, but I think we could make an educated guess if we knew the answers to the following:

1. What is the average time lapse between abuse and its first report? What is the longest time? Shortest? Monitor, please get back to us with this ASAP.

For the sake of argument, let's say the average time is 24 months, the longest time, not counting those that are never reported, is 120 months, and the shortest is 1 month.

2. Can NTM to point to a period of time equal to 24 consecutive months (or whatever the actual average time really is) during which there have been no reported cases of abuse?

3. NTM should supply us with year by year statistics of reported cases of abuse, mission wide. At this stage, all that is necessary to establish the importance of the petition is the number of cases and the places where they occurred.

It would be more convincing to argue that the petition is no longer needed because NTM has agreed to its major demands, an investigation of claims of abuse by a third party. Of course, NTM only did this under extreme pressure. If the petition will help maintain this pressure, it will serve a valuable purpose.

The petition will be turned in on November 3. Please only sign it if you agree that the cover up should be stopped for all NTM schools and that an outside investigator should be retained to investigate these abuses and the cover-ups. Cover-ups are abuse, I don't know how else to put it. My abuse hurt me deeply, but the abuse at the hands of the mission in covering it up and making me the problem caused me the deepest pain and loss and sense of shame. To those whose schools haven't been investigated yet and the cover-up hasn't been exposed, my heart goes out to you.

Thanx Kari I was wondering when the petition was going to be handed in.

The petition has been turned in with 504 signatures, to the list of the EC posted here somewhere amongst all the threads.

It will still remain open until I have time to figure out what to do with it. But it has been sent on to the EC.

THANK YOU, MRSM! I am honestly shocked that we only got 500 signatures.

Maybe this goes along with the thread I just read, wondering why men don't speak up about child abuse, and why they so often side with an adult and don't defend the children.

I wonder if God is up there shaking his head at all us puny human beings and our innate lack of courage. We must be such a disappointment to Him. Again.

I also wonder what the message is behind the many "anonymous" signatures I saw on the petition. How are we to interpret that? Many people agreed with the petition but were afraid to reveal their identity. AFRAID? Wow, I wonder why ...
