Paul, nah, I can't argue with what you wrote . . .

What I've really been processing lately is the amount of damage that the church and church like agencies like New Tribes can do to the souls of its women and children. And the sad thing is, that unless they make drastic changes in doctrine and subsequent behavior, then it is going to continue to happen.

If you are raising daughters in a culture where they are exhorted to keep quiet, that certain places are not theirs, ever . . .if your culture limits her exploration and development, . . .then she will be damaged . . .soul crippled. She will be brave, yes, we were taught to be brave. We were taught to survive among bullies. She may survive, but thriving will only come with a break out from the oppression.

I didn't want this life lesson to be true.

This is something I've been thinking about lately myself. I question how I meekly submitted to the culture in the fundamentalist world, and allowed myself to be treated as a female, a person who was disqualified, by my gender, for much of what men were automatically considered worthy of, simply because of their Y chromosome.

It seems really, really messed up to me now. That whole culture.

But for so many years I thought that was all I deserved.

Because I was "just" a woman.

Ugh.

Bemused sticks his head above the parapet and looks around. Is it safe for him to come out? He checks his chromosomes, oops there is a y one. Then he thinks, "hang on Bemused, thou art a male nurse and therefore in touch with thy feminine side . . . "

Alas it is a characteristic of most religions that women are treated as second class citizens, to do the bid and calling of men and do so without complaining.
Of course the leaders point out that men and women are different and it is all written in their particular scriptures, which of course they interpret for lesser beings as per their own agenda.

I fear that change will be very very slow in the more fundamental circles, but despite my owning a y chromosome, I'm on the side of the sisters on this one .

There are very few Y chromosome beings I know who would take the time to do that, or think it's cute. But it's adorable!

I knew there would be some agreement . . .love the little bunnie . . .

I guess what I'm struggling with, is, have we shown the church, the church world, or the world how truly abhorrent it is?

What would that look like?

Conclusion: we know it is abhorrent. We don't want to make a fuss. We are afraid of those with power and control. Women and children in our midst have needs that are not unnoticed, but are deliberately sacrificed for the greater good. How very noble.

I'd like to sacrifice a thing or two.
