Going back into the mission in many ways was the "easy option", it was certainly expected that an MK would gain some useful skill and eventually get back into missionary work, if not just dive on back in.

And herein may lie part of the problem, as MKs everything was provided for by "God" or "donors", so there was a sense of entitlement. We did a deal with God, we did His work for Him and He provided the means to do it. This is all well and good, but I wonder if it didn't distort reality in that most people have to work for anything they want and probably work very hard.
And so when an MK tumbles out into the real world, there is a reality check and no matter how weird or bad MK life was, some actually feel safer back in the same environment that damaged them in the first place, than in the real world.

And when an MK goes back, my dear Raz, I suspect you are close to the mark, no one is going to ask if they are mentally or psychologically fit for the task, after all being an MK has more mana than just being an ordinary recruit and if you are an MK of an MK then hey, you're almost royalty.

I think your thoughts, though rambling, are quite on the mark.

In my short time with NTM (some 4 years in total) I can see the truth in what you say.

I still encounter some missionaries (with various missions) and they do have a general sense of entitlement. They certainly have a lot of holidays - to do with the fatigue of spiritual warfare I was told. It may well come as a shock if some NTM missionaries had to work in the business world as I do. Not a lot of love and kindness to go around.

Still, I got out of NTM (albeit kicked out). My husband tells me that my stubborness can get me into and out of trouble. I guess he is right on that one. I thank god he gave me a stubborn streak or I still might be there in that mission

I find it very interesting that Scott Kennell pleaded guilty and rather quickly. I wonder how much NTM's legal counsel had to do with that. I'm pretty certain they did everything they could to make sure this case didn't go to trial.

On the other hand, he may have made some sort of deal, in which case I'm sure they are even more worried.

I wonder how one could find out if NTM's legal counsel got involved in this case in any way.

Scott was placed "on immediate leave" right after his arrest. But it is my impression that he was not dismissed from the mission until he pleaded guilty. So I guess during the interim, he remained a member, on leave? In which case maybe NTM's lawyers did represent him?

The world would sure like to know ....

When I was in college my mission asked me to become a missionary, I was guaranteed I would get in. I told them you don't even know me, but if that is how you do it I am not interested. I guess I have always been a rebel.
