The Kiwi style of humour is based more on the British style, where we laugh at ourselves. I don't take myself particularly seriously, it is a technique that served me well in my nursing, a good icebreaker.
It is also a coping mechanism, developed over the years. Bully's and Abusers find it harder to victimize a comedian and it also stops all but close friends getting to know who the real person behind the mask is.
Laughing at the ridiculousness of my childhood was something that developed soon after arriving on the field, it was the only way to cope with all the nonsense and to avoid becoming someone who was a faking it just to keep in favour with those higher up the chain.
Now on a positive note. Kiwis can rally fly.
