The only thing I am disappointed in is the amount of space, 6 paragraphs, given to repressed memory and that it may be false. Those working with abuse know that many children especially young children repress the abuse to survive and do not remember it until adulthood and something triggers the memory. To me it comes across that much of the abuse should be questioned. Other wise the article is good. Rich Darr is a Mamou MK.

This is excellent publicity. I'm no expert on recovered memory, but have been fortunate enough to be given a good memory for obscure details.
Compliments to the Chicago Tribune (which I still can't read, but I'm not taking it personally :P ).

True. And there was no room to question either. I think one of the major causes in the breakdown of our family is that I questioned from an early age what exactly it was that we were doing on the field and what others were doing.
My father saw this as a challenge to his authority (and still does, despite my age), somehow he had become god in his own right, he felt he spoke on behalf of God.
And so rules were made that made no practical sense, but they were not followed by those who made them. So the whole basic fabric of society brokedown and men crossed the line of criminality in the vilest of ways, yet were able to justify their actions to themselves and even their leaders, because they said the right religious phrases.

Throw in the isolated locations and the secretive nature of the boarding schools and it was a breeding ground for exactly what did transpire. The proof being that it happened in not just one boarding school, but over and over.

I have been very busy; not a lot of FE time. I think the article is very good. I don't even mind the part about the repressed memory question. The reporter is not saying she agrees with the man who doubts MK's memories. I think she is presenting it in a way that helps show that that man's opinion is one of the things we are up against. So it throws a bit of controversy into the article.

I hope this lengthy article opens up the subject of MK abuse, and that other media will be more interested in covering this issue.

One thing I realized at the MKSN Conference in Chicago is that the best way to get our issues "out there" is through the media. SNAP has done this very effectively to expose widespread child abuse by priests in the Catholic Church. We can learn a lot from SNAP about the methods they have utilized to do this.

Excellent point. Our Catholic cousins have alas much experience in this mess too. We could learn from them, or even better we could work with them to stamp out child abuse in religious institutions once and for all.

But of course that would go against what many of us were taught and still haunts us, that our Catholic cousins are not our cousins but the heathen enemy who are stealing the souls of natives from us, yay verily they are a tool of the devil and all that nonsense.
Ah, let's just get Bemused to reach out to them and if that works we can jump on the bandwagon and if it doesn't well it won't be any skin off our good Christian noses and we can just pat Bemused on the back and say there there, better luck next time, now can you get back to giving Crossview a hard time.

Personally I'd deal with anyone who is taking a stand against child abuse, no matter what colour, religion or planet they are from. I've had some truly wonderful replies and many no replies.

Like dear Raz, I'm tied up with a few things at the moment, but am usually around somewhere. Just look for the Purple Cycling Shorts

Christianity is not the only religion with horrid child abuse. I have been on a number of site where most of the people are Jewish, they too hare fighting the same battles. Those in authority deny and cover up, the blame is put on the victims. Yes religion is a place where those in leadership are without fault. Their authority is never questioned. Yes we need to support all who take a stand against child abuse.
