I purchased a copy of "The History of NTM" about a year ago (got it for $1 on line
). The bit that fascinated me was when the founders of NTM were setting the organisation up, they had in their group an individual who didn't agree with the way matters were going, so left. Then he was killed in an agricultural accident and the writer of the book quite clearly stated that it was God's way of removing an obstacle. No compassion, just another obstacle removed.
And that thinking was pervading NTM logic when I was a kid. We were scared to speak out because "God would take us out" and there were graphic examples to prove the theory, the one I remember the most was when the Principals brother was electrocuted in a domestic accident and it was held up as how God would remove anyone who "didn't walk with Him".
Anyway why I'm rambling on about all this is that my suspicion is that this still plays on the minds of MKs who grew up with this vindictive theory. It keeps the fear alive, even decades latter and so silence is maintained. Any rational person would of course dismiss this as being "cultish manipulation", but if this is what you were brought up in, it is not easy to get it out of your head.
As for CURRENT stories of abuse in NTM PNG. I did have a brief correspondence with a recent MK, I was assured that the abuse had stopped and guidelines were in place so that it wouldn't happen again. However I heard this reassurance before Scott Kennel was arrested, so my faith is yet again not that strong.
Hope this sort of answers the question.
