@ mango: The "Age of Grace" has more to do with God's attitude towards us, and very little to do with those entrusted with spiritual leadership who act contrary to all sense of justice in the name of the One to Whom they will have to give account. I second your feelings of those who worm their way into innocent lives and destroy them citing some "spiritualized" maxim that is twisted and nothing more than a tool of satan!

By the way, child molesters aren't treated all that well in prison! Either way, the offender will get it, either en route a la the neighbors, or in prison a la the "brute squad" (for those who can quote ViaMks' all-time favorite movie!).

Courageous: Thank you for your kind words, support and for understanding. I don't want a retreat either. That seems awkward to me. I just want to protect other people from abusers and I want there to be healing for all; victims and abusers.

I´d be happy to see unrestricted acknowledgment of what happened, the bringing to justice those who committed crimes, the revamping of policy and beginning of new attitudes (although how can you legislate that - it´s like the new antiracism laws in Brasil). That´s all I can think of right now. I suppose a retreat would be healing and necessary for different types of people. I´d truly like to see New Tribes come through washed clean, com alma lavada, and start a new page. I can think of a number of friends who wouldn´t show up at a retreat.

Publius, u r right about child molesters in prison. If not killed outright, at best they go in as a "tightend" and come out a "wide reciever" if u get my drift.

What's sad though is what if the "abuse" they suffered in prison only makes them worse abusers once they get out?

I really think that all sexual abusers have been abused before. I don't think they can ever heal until they deal with their own victimization from childhood. Until they realize how much their childhood abuse affected them, until they take responsibilities for their actions as adults, and then again- much accountability.
Have you ever heard of chemical castration? It's a shot or medicine that they will give abusers and it's supposed to temper the urges they have. Problem is, once they stop taking it, those urges come back. I read an absolutely horrible but true story of a guy in a mental place who was being chemically castrated. Once he left there though, those urges all returned. he assumed a new identity, moved into a nice neighborhood and the abuse continued with the neighborhood kids. When he was finally caught, no one could believe it because he was just the nicest guy.
