I appreciate the letter.

Not sure the list of countries related to which the relevant files were turned over would satisfy certain people on this board - Raz for example. But, I understand - litigation and/or shredding.

There is a common practice in the real world - it involves putting certain individuals on administrative leave pending the conclusion of certain investigations. I would recommend this practice be considered in light of the list of individuals available elsewhere in these forums.

I think some thought and insight has gone into this correspondence. Finally someone is looking at the realistic chance that NTM may not survive in its current form or even at all, because of past occurences.
It's no doubt an outcome that is worst case scenario, but in life sometimes it is a good stratergy to look at the worst case scenario and then work backwards to see what can be done to rectify the situation.

Yes the proof will be in the pudding, but this sounds like a decent cullinary attempt to make a bit of humble pie, which is a step in the right direction.

Quoting from NTM's latest "We have changed" letter: "What happened to you wasn’t right, is unconscionable and is indefensible."

I've never heard this before! [Rolls eyes] If it is truly unconscionable and indefensible, please explain why NTM is defending itself in court. Over to you, Andy "They dare not be reckless with the mission" Kline....

Who appointed Mr. Shortmeier?

Who was the previous Director of Child Protection? If he is the first one, who was previously doing whatever it is he is doing now?

What role does he have in the suit against NTM by Jane Doe # 7?

Remembering that there are three kinds of lies, we read "statistics show that the incidence of child abuse dropped off dramatically in the mid 90’s."

The old NTM would never share any statistics of this nature with us. Will the new NTM do so?

I know, I know. A lot of people are so happy to see ANY progress that I will be viewed as a bitter and unforgiving cynic. I am neither, though I do admit that personal experience with NTM as well as their past performance on this issue, to say nothing of their continued defense of themselves in court - the ONLY place where it could really hurt them to be open and honest - raises grave doubts in my mind.

This is not the first time they have come out with wonderful letters and got everybody all teary eyed and supportive and impressed us with their new-found honesty, only to go quiet and do... absolutely nothing.

This sounds to me like it was run past either Scott Ross or some other attorney: "But they weren’t just 'wrongs.' They were sins – sins against kids, sins against their parents and sins against God."

My dear, dear Sir. They weren't just "wrongs." They were CRIMES.

Why would you be sure that there are ANY who don't believe you?

You are correct in saying that words are cheap. Now that you have discovered that it is all but impossible to see any of the abusers prosecuted, this is a pretty safe statement to say. Not too different from Les Emory's statement that he should have been punished for his, er... "wrongs." Cheap words, Sir, cheap words.

How about their co-conspirators, the ones who shielded them, protected them, moved them to other places where they repeated their "wrongs" and "sins"? Been in touch with any public prosecutors overseas yet?

How about the organization, the Church of New Tribes Mission, Inc., that fostered the culture of fear and secrecy, the bed in which these weeds grew? Oh, wait. Now I remember. Let's not be reckless.

NTM if there is "the determination to do whats right" why are you putting survivors of the abuse that you all hid/denied for the past 40+ years through the the heartbreaking destruction of having to take you to court to admit what you all know is undeniable evidence held in FILES by YOUR organization???

NOTHING HAS CHANGED!

This is the first time I have seen an acknowledgement that NTM could come to an end. I think if the law suits go against NTM then that will have a big impact on how NTM can go forward. As I've talked to a few people 1. Some say it will not have a major impact because it will be a small settlement. 2. Others say it will be devastating and will be the end of the mission.
It seems very difficult to prosecute pedophiles. I do believe Brian when he says they want to see the sex abusers prosecuted. I know this site is a place to vent about NTM that's fine. I see past that, I see it as a place of shared pain and shared healing so if the bashing helps go for it. My question is if the lawsuits are successful in closing NTM down how then do you go forward with prosecuting the pedophiles. Will it make it easier or harder to prosecute them. My prayer is that there will be a satisfactory resolution to the lawsuits in a way that both sides can come away with something positive. My prayer is that in the future NTM and sex abuse victims can work together to see these pedophiles prosecuted.
I was disappointed that NTM choose to fight the lawsuits instead of come to some agreement or settlement.
