"Brian Coombs writes, 'I just took on this role as of January 1st [2014]. I am over all US Personnel, this includes member care, membership, disciplinary action, retirement, application to NTM training, ministry assignments, etc. I also work in/with Department of Child Protection, as this is also under Personnel. My role really reflects that of an HR Director.'"
Brian Coombs is "really" the Human Resources Director for NTM USA. How many "human resources" does this entail? Thousands?
He is "over" all US Personnel. He is "over" member care, membership, disciplinary action, retirement, application to NTM training, ministry assignments and other things (the cookie jar, too, I suppose.) Does this mean he is responsible for hiring, training, firing, retiring and forcing the resignations of those he is "over"? Does he make "ministry assignments" for tribal missionaries? This is certainly a lot to be "over."
Oh, yes. One more thing. He also works in/with the Department of Child Protection. Also. ALSO!
Let's review WHY, after a thorough search throughout all of the NTM USA missionaries, regardless of their ministry assignments, Brain Coombs was chosen to "chair" the Department of Child Protection: "…New Tribes Mission’s on-going efforts at child protection have been without a central leader and were becoming more disjointed. Consequently, while some efforts at direction had been coming from a committee, more things began falling through the cracks." (quoted from "Ministry Change!," an entry on the NTM member's blog of Brian and Julie Coombs, posted on Apr 2nd, 2012 and since shredded)
Yes, child protection is "one of the most critical and demanding ministries that NTM has." Let's tack it on to member care and disciplinary actions. Not really a full time job...
So, a search for just the right person to stem the tide of more things falling through the cracks was begun in early 2011, the best qualified person in all of Planet New Tribes was located and agreed upon in early 2012 and when this answer to prayer took up his post in 2014, he has umpteen OTHER responsibilities on his plate, any one of which would tax the abilities of most normal human beings. Especially the "disciplinary actions."
I wonder if it would have taken two full years to get a new CEO for NTM USA?
Mr. Coombs has a pretty big load to carry. I don't pretend that I would be able to do it, or even a fraction of it. I stand in awe of any person who is bold enough to attempt it, if a little skeptical of those who would try. In fact, judging by performance to date, four months into this Human Resources quagmire, the number of things falling through the cracks can only be described as "substantial."
What experience and qualifications does NTM's Human Resources Director bring with him? He is "over" (his humble word, not mine) thousands of NTM employees. Has he ever been "over" people on Planet Earth?
"Over" and, hopefully, "out."
