Yes. God sees. God knows.

You, NTM, will be held accountable for this debacle.

From start to finish, from the 1950s to 2016, you have proven what you hold most dear.

It is not your children.

Jesus weeps.

AND CHILDREN NOW GROWN
AND PARENTS NOW OLD
WEEP AND GROAN

TO NO AVAIL

THOSE WERE NO LEADERS
THEY DIDN'T CARE

It has been refreshing to know some leaders
Who do care
And do lead
And do accept feedback
And do have respect
Among those they lead.

No it wasn't the children. And I don't think it was the indigenous folk either. Given the staggering percent of NTM's listed staff that are no where near the third world (around 50%), one has to wonder what is NTM's prime objective?

In todays turbulent economic times, missionary life is not a bad financial option, especially as "living by faith" seems to have been replaced with sponsors of varying tiers. It wasn't a bad option for many when I was an MK decades ago and the work hours were very flexible and for some, minimal. Add in the prestege that comes with the missionary life, it's not a bad living.

Add in support workers, furloughs, extended leave and tribal work being done on bases e.t.c. at any one time I'd hazard a guess that very few are actually in a tribal area at one time.

I remember being told many times of the long years of dedication that were required to establish a church and translate parts of the Bible in any particular tribe. Yet it seemed that few tribes had the same missionaries for more than a couple of years, before they were transfered to home staff or a job at HQ or left NTM and "the work" would start all over again with someone new. And then there were the missionaries who were put in a tribe to get them away from HQ, as my parents were. They never learned a language and goodness knows what they did all day, until it all ended in disaster.

The cynical part of me would say that NTM was a repository for a high proportion of social misfits, often running from their own demons, interspersed with some good dedicated folk who unwittingly acted as cover. Given that the person who recruited my parents ended up in jail and it was cleverly covered up, it's probably not to far from being highly accurate. There were six child sexual predators operating at Numonohi in my era and it was not that big a base back then. And that is just the sexual offenders, many of the other men were sadistic and a few of the women too. I don't think it was the environment that made them that way, just they were always tending toward anti social behavior and NTM was an environment that fostered it, with few questions asked.

Somehow I doubt NTM let's it's supporters know just how few indigenous folk are reached.
