Some very good points in that article/ blog, Raz.
We all know that forgiveness has been made into a type of golden calf.
I try to be discerning in whatever I read.
And then take what I can from it.
There is always something to be learned.

On the subject of forgiveness.

Can we forgive ourselves for the poor life choices made in our own lives as a result of childhood influences?

Have been following an interesting blog on RNS re marriage and divorce and it has got me thinking. For some of us the divorce road has been a personal experience and some of the factors contributing to it could well be the problem of unresolved issues from the "strange" childhoods and the lack of ability to deal with situations as they arise due to poor coping mechanisms or lack of understanding.

Forget talking about forgiveness!!!!! We'll just go round and round in circles and no one is asking to be forgiven anyway, because as far as the perverts who did this are concerned, if they are not already dead they don't think they have done any thing wrong anyway.

Vengeance is the Lords, we are told. But why aren't we helping Him out? Not by violence, but simply by telling the truth and exposing the lies. Even Jesus lost his cool and whipped a few people in the temple!!!!!!

Seriously folks, if you feel you are going round in circles with all this forgiveness guilt, then think about a little bit of retaliation. Evil only exists because good people choose to do nothing about it.

The only people we should feel obliged to forgive is our own faults because of the mess that we have caused in our own lives, contributed to by the traumas of the past!!!!!!!

Had a long think about this issue. It's tricky and you are right in not advocating violence, but retribution is a trickier area.

This link was posted on the RNS site PBS.org/secrets of the Vatican It's long, so in summary it is an investigative piece on how high up in the Catholic Church the child sex abuse scandal goes and it's relevance to the unexpected resignation of Pope Benedict. It also reveals the staggering amount of money that the Vatican controls and how money is shuffled around so that it cannot be used to settle court orders in the case of rulings going against the Church for Abuse cases.
The piece that struck me was a victim speaking and saying that what helped in her healing most was that someone cared enough to seek retribution against her offender, when the Church remained silent or issued threats.

In many ways speaking out is a form of retaliation/retribution, because the publicity does have a financial impact on organisations who hide their offenders. As MKs who live in a country where it is rare for a large group to threaten to sue and take malicious action against anyone who speaks out, we are in a special position of being able to expose the truth freely. Reading other websites, it is clear our U.S. MK colleagues are not afforded the same luxury and that they live with a far more real threat of malicious legal action to ensure their silence.

NTM has had decades to sort out this scandalous mess and have been very lax in doing so. It appears they trust lawyers and deception, rather than truth and God. And the promises that this will never happen again are made ineffective by the recent handling of the Scott Kennel arrest. So my humble view is what ever it takes to clean up this mess is justified, within the bounds of sticking to the truth and there being no violence resorted to.

I hope we get some debate and comment on this issue.

The guilt always remains in everyone. Even if someone hid very much, you can not escape from it. It is worth asking people for forgiveness it always helps.
