This is terribly, terribly sad.

In case anyone wonders about the accuracy of these memories described by threewillows, I too remember the bruises on the thighs of babies in NTM.

Those plump babies were well fed, but they were also being brutalized horribly, by zealous, devout parents who thought they were following God's bidding.

(Some of the bruises could have also come at the hands of other caregivers, as in those days, it was considered appropriate for workers in the childcare programs to spank the babies and toddlers also. For wiggling during a diaper change, for example.)

These memories are tormenting me now. I am so ashamed.
