Luke 18:15-17 (New Living Translation)

15 One day some parents brought their little children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But when the disciples saw this, they scolded the parents for bothering him.

16 Then Jesus called for the children and said to the disciples, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. 17 I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.”

Jesus and his disciples were very busy. So very busy. Busy doing so many important things. Reaching out to new territories. Expanding the kingdom. There were so many needy people -- way out there -- who needed to be brought into the fold.

And now here were these children! And their loving parents! Who for some crazy reason imagined that Jesus would have any interest in them, or time for them! Why would he want to take time out from his busy ministry to touch a bunch of little children! To bless them?

Get out of here, parents! Take your little ones and get out of our way! Our Master is doing God's work! Don't expect him to have any interest in touching your children! Scram!!

What a bother you are! What a distraction! Get away, and let us focus on what is really significant!

And Jesus said unto them:

"Look here guys, about the "fold". It would be a good idea if you reviewed your management plan:

a) Clean up the fold, get rid of the lawyers and wolves in sheeps clothing, because the fold is meant to be a refuge, not a dining place for unrepentant sinners and profiteers.

b) Stop using the "Stick and Carrot" approach. Entry is free into the fold, you don't have to beat anyone or dazzle them into the fold. Just do some humble good humanitarian works that will demonstrate your faith and the sheep will come. No gimics needed.

c) Look after those already in the fold, there have been a lot of complaints recently about some pretty bad management of past incidents and it frankly is disgraceful!

d) If you seriously can't do the job properly, just let Me know and I'll get some other followers to do it. If you are pretending to do a great job of managing the fold, but continue to go in the wrong direction, I will not be "well pleased" and will have to review matters.

Aussie, that thread has been removed because of privacy concerns.

However, anyone who wants to help with the travel fund is welcome to PM threewillows for information.

Thanks to those who sent me messages to explain this.

Still trying to get my head around why one can't donate anonymously, but that might be a cultural difference.
I think Downunders would prefer to sponsor a specific person to go, rather than donate to a pot that is then dished out by someone.

And it only cost $1 per day to sponsor.

Oh no, sorry, that is a child in Africa. Might be a little more for an MK from Africa or Panama or wherever

An abused child in Africa probably doesn't have the resources that we have to heal. And an abused child in Africa probably doesn't have access to the internet to find the healing that comes from finding others.

We who have been unfortunate enough to be touched by the worst aspects of being MKs, do have much to be grateful for, when we see how much of the world is far less fortunate.

With that fortune, does there come a responsibility to make sure we help others to heal as well? To speak for those who cannot speak or do not have the same freedoms of speech that we enjoy?

Thought for Sunday.
