I wonder how many donors are under the misapprehension that they are giving funds that will purchase supplies?

According to NTM Aviation website, the food and building supplies for the last disaster were donated by local churches and NTM provided the transport.

Of course if the surplus money from the last disaster had not been given to a dubious project, it might have still been in the pot ready for this latest disaster.

This is what Bemused wrote on this thread on the 29th of Oct.

Quote:
I predict that NTM has discovered a lucrative way of raising funds and will repeat this each time they can find "a disaster" to use. However donor fatigue will set in and the funds gathered will lessen, it generally does.

The appeal is for rice this time. Please make it brown rice, that white stuff has little nutritional value.
The El Nino weather system that is causing the drought is affecting New Zealand also. Will there be an appeal to assist Kiwis next?

I'll just go clear the road outside, so the Kodak can land ;)

Irony again.

Bemused is the Prophet for NTM, but NTM is not the profit for Bemused.

Sadly Bemused will probably be right again and again. This is a good income source, why not use it over and over. Next disaster please.

If NTM starts collecting to help the people of France I will be absolutely livid. Surely they wouldn't try that stunt, but NTM has done the despicable with no conscience at all for years, so nothing would surprise me any more.

I don't see a fund for France yet, but I did find these on NTM's website:

Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund. Goal is $100,000 and they have collected $17,418.

Disaster Relief Emergency Fund. Goal is $50,000 and they have collected $17,851.

And the previously mentioned Papua New Guinea Drought Relief Fund. This one is not showing any goal amount or any amount received. I wonder why? It just says, "This project has an ongoing need". They have also broken it down nicely for the compassionate hearts, the way some other fund raisers do it: "A donation of just $13 will provide roughly enough rice for 12 people for 3 days."

Nepal? Didn't know NTM worked in Nepal. When did that happen?

And the average American family of 12 can live on $13 of rice for 3 days? Amazing ;) That would buy about 3 Big Macs in Kiwiland, I must eat more rice :o

Speaking of sympathy, Channel 7 in Australia has put up the French flag as background to their news broadcast, except they got the dutch flag by mistake. Oops.
