I shall beat Raz to it and offer an "Amen" to your insightful post.
Funny thing happened this week, I caused a little confusion and it was assumed that you (Aussie) are in fact my sister by one of our esteemed posters. So I had a think about it and came to the conclusion that although biologically this is not the case, it would be nice to have a sister with such passion and forthrightness.
Sometimes the road we have travelled together makes us more like brothers and sisters than the biological soup we inherit from our real siblings. For oft is the case that our real siblings choose not to accompany us on the journey we find ourselves on, but to take very different paths. Paths that will quite possibly never cross again. Sometimes we catch glimpses of the path that our siblings have taken, especially at Christmas time and we wonder if they are truly happy and free on their journeys. Often we cannot see their paths, for they have been enveloped by the fogs of influences from which they have not been able to free themselves and we feel some compassion for the situations that they find themselves in.
For some of us, by choice we walk a very different path from that of our families. Sometimes as a matter of necessity or sanity and sometimes to comply with a conscience that is restless.
So to all my "sisters" who fly with the wings of Eagles (or a variation of the same), a toast to our "families" be they genetically similar or adopted
