I used to know a Jesus I used to call him friend But the folk around about me Said our friendship it must end They said he was middle eastern Where terrorists do reside And you can't trust such people For they have so often lied They said he had long hair And although it was not a sin It meant he was probably a liberal Which matched his compassionate funny grin They said he was unmarried And lived at home with his ma So his orientation was in question Or he was functioning well below par They said his friends were poor So they were dubious too And he advocated loving everyone Such a 60's point of view So I cut my hair, became conservative And went to spread the word of God But without my friend Jesus It all seemed rather odd |

After I finished my nurses training I went back to PNG to see my parents. At the time they were running a guesthouse on the coast and had quite a few of the locals as friends dropping in. My father took me aside and advised that it was not wise to demonstrate to much friendliness with his local guests when other Tribers were around, because it tended to upset them and cause trouble. I wasn't really surprised, because I'd seen rascism first hand as a teenager in NTM. Another Kiwi MK confirmed the exact same story, her parents having got into considerable trouble for friendliness with the locals. Even today I get the occassional strange e-mail or facebook post dictating who I can be friendly with and who I should avoid. It just reminds me how fortunate I am to live far away from this sort of nonsense. As for your question my good friend Raz. I have no idea where Jesus went, but I suspect he does not reside in havens of hatred and intolerance. And that is why I wrote this piece, I doubt it will change a thing but there it is anyway. |

"A faith that cannot survive a collision with the truth, is NOT worth many regrets" Arthur C Clarke "Come" I was told "For we bring faith into the dark" "And behold our bite Is not as bad as our bark" "Sit" I was told "For your faith must be" "And they reeducated the mind Of a very little me" "Fetch" I was told "For some are of faith great" "And if thee fetch not You will suffer evil fate" "Stay" I was told "But I'd had enough So I ran into the not so evil world And ignored the cultish childhood stuff" |

"Come" "Sit" "Fetch" "Stay" Yes, there was a lot of that, wasn't there. And "Do as I say, not as I do." |

It had its very horrible stuff I'm glad if some finally got thru it And are making sense of going on And living normally now. YAY! Those have MUCH understanding for All the others at different stages. We watch our different kids and some are ok And some are not so much. It unsettles us and takes our peace To watch those. What it did to whole families! We came thru with our faith intact. But it is different for us than for our children-- For you whom we support here. So we stay faith-based and conservative, But reaching out in all love and anguish, too, To any others in every state of disrepair or of putting-back-together. Now Raz-- She knows both sides of this coin. She has been thru the whole nine yards of experience. UGH! Good to see y'all back! |

Agreed, but we can never nor will we walk away from our kids. They are not asking us to Even tho some of it has been bumpy. Each has to make his own decisions whether hard or easy In spite of what others say. And do what makes him at least somewhat comfy. |
