The God Bandaid Solution

I was reading a reply
To an article I wrote some time ago
It said I should find God
And let all my worries go

Which got me to wondering
If the writer had read what I said
Or just typed out the same old reply
That escapes regularly from their head

The problem with the God Bandaid
Is it gets stuck on to absolve the Saint
Of doing anything more than a bit of preaching
And not anything that might be messy and make one faint

It's the whack it on and walk away cure all
Apply to Agnostics, backsliders and the like
Then pedal off into the sunset
Singing "Hallelujah another one told" from the bike

And just for the record
I'm not worried, bitter or depressed
It's just God Bandaids don't really cut the mustard
When you're operating deep inside the chest

For some of us that is a sort of calling
Fixing hearts broken by their past
Being like the Good Samaritan
Not on deep wounds God Bandaids to cast

So please, no more God Bandaids
If you really want to show you care
Roll up your sleeves, put on the gloves
And prove you really, really care!
