And they used to call it Personal Ministry. More a mix of bullying and amateur pop psychology experimentation by a bunch of whackos who had no idea of the concepts of compassion and caring.

How many missionaries could (and should) be described this way?

NTM was so against any concept of a call from God. Their contention was that really, everyone is called to go into all the world and preach the Gospel. So a lot of people joined NTM through their own choice, their own volition, their own selection. Just like other young people chose to join the military, or chose a major in college, or chose to stay on the farm.

How many high school graduates picked NTBI because it was cheaper, safer, shorter, or met with parental approval? How many NTM MKs went there because it felt like the most natural progression for the next step in their lives, and they knew lots of other MKs would be there?

We picked God as a career choice.

Yes, we did.

And oh, what a mess we've made of things.

I wonder how many of us MKs walked away from God/faith because our view was obscured/distorted by what we saw/experienced?

For how many did "the mission" or a parent, become the manifestation of God or even a pseudo god. And in the end the solution to preserving ones sanity was to put it all in the "too hard" basket and get on with life without having to sort out what was the good and bad baggage of the past.

It's not the cowards way out, it's just taking another "career option" that is more suited.

It made me feel nauseous just thinking about it, because yes, I do know MKs whose parents were rapists, molesters and child beaters. I am heartbroken for all of them.
