I think we all got it.
The whole thing is SO SO sad.
Wish some others were mad and sad enough to take care of it.
Penn State did a much better job.
And quicker too.

I was starting to wonder if I was acceptable - but then I found the link from Kari in the spam filter. Phew. I haven't had anything to do with "the organisation" since 1993. I saw an article not so long ago in our newspaper and then the Australian abuse developments / inquiry have sparked a lot of old memories off. I am not an MK but I went through their bible college and MTS. Thankfully the tyrannical leadership of the day kicked me out before I made it to the end of the course. Also thankfully their prophesy (as I departed their ranks) that God would cause me to die in a car accident hasn't come true either. Anyway, one thing I want to say is that I support you all in this quest for acknowledgement, answers and justice for what happened in all those boarding schools over the years.

I started reading this site a few weeks back. I couldn't sleep that first night as it dawned on me that when I was in MTS in 1992/93 we had a "hold the ropes" prayer session in small groups for NTM missionaries overseas every weekday morning. We were allocated people/places to pray for. For 6 months I prayed for those at the Fanda school. If ever there was an example of the ineffectiveness of prayer, well, this must be it. Hmmmm.

Welcome to our ranks, 22_years_ago it wasn't your ineffectiveness prayers that failed ,,,,it was the hardened hearts of staff and field committee that are at fault. One of my daughters was abused by the hardened and sinful heart that was called "her dorm dad" Thank you for your prayers. Hope that you continue with us

In October of 1992, David Brooks finally "confessed" to the Executive Committee in Sanford that he had been abusing MKs at the Fanda School.

In March of 1993, Les Emory was confronted with an allegation of abuse, and eventually under duress "confessed" to having abused one MK at the Aritao school in the Philippines. (Much more would be revealed in subsequent months.)

You're thinking your Hold The Ropes prayers were ineffective? As the mother of two of Les Emory's many victims, I am smiling tearfully, and saying, "I think not."

Thank you for those prayers.

Our family, our lives and our hearts changed forever, in 1993. It was the beginning of a long and weary journey, still incomplete.

But that's the year it started.

And so, again, I whisper: thank you.

You are right Raz and dbarney, 22 brings back the memories of allways walking on eggshells in fear of being severely punnished for some infraction of the rigid regulations that these people who claimed God`s grace was sufficient enforced on us.

And glad you GOT OUT early.
It took us over 25 years.
