[quote="Tuti Hess"]Yunker and others who can't stand NTM. Nothing that NTM does will ever satisfy you because you have made it very clear that you don't trust NTM and you think they are crap. Have you considered starting your own investigation, spending some of your own money, researching and hiring your own investigators. I'm serious. That way I would think you would have more confidence and control in the process. You may not like what NTM is doing but they are doing something and it is being paid for by my husband and I and every single member of NTM USA and those who support NTM. I don't know how many people in the end will be shown to have been involved in abuse but I hope it will be 20% or less. The rest of us the other 80% have to make up for those losers.[/quote

In normal secular society, the 95% of good people pay their taxes, which in part goes to feed, water and house the 5% of those who break societys rules and require imprisonment or judicial intervention. I would be very suprised if 20% of NTM staff were involved in any way in abuse, not even the coverups. However in the boarding schools this would be a more accurate figure, also consider that one abuser usually has multiple victims.
As to starting our own investigations, we down under have. What we have found out is horrorfying and goes far beyond a bit of wandering hands syndrome and mental anguish. Each day of my working career I put on my uniform and prepare myself mentally for what I might see on the wards, but I didn't expect to see so much hurt, pain and human destruction caused by one organisation over so many decades. An organisation that I was personally involved with.
My understanding of the funding of NTM personal, was that each individual receives (less a small percent for administration) the entire amount of their donated funds. As my father was the book keeper for PNG, I suspect I'm correct. So one NTM member is not financially disadvantaged by the sins of another. The only assets NTM would have, is primarily land and housing stock, which of course will be used to fund any compensation claims.
Which raises the interesting question, where is the money coming from to fund lawyers e.t.c.? Is there some fund that most of us don't know about, or are these lawyers donating their services for free? Or is the money from bequests from people who are probably turning in their graves about now?

I do regret singling out "Yunker and others" in this comment I have learnt that it's not a good idea to single people out. I also regret saying the last part of my comment "The rest of us the other 80% have to make up for those losers" it wasn't necessary.

I'm glad that you "down under" have started an investigation. It's very obvious that there is little or no confidence in NTM which is understandable. If someone in the US would start something that would be good too. Maybe with all of us working together things will move a little faster and a broader picture will emerge from both sides. Ultimately I think we all just want the truth to come out and then deal with the consequences.

I mentioned before about the liability fund which is part of the fees that you mention Bemused. Everyone pays these fees. In the past this fund was used for abuse cases. There recently was a change made to how the liability fund is administered. Apart from the abuse cases liability includes contingency issues like hostage taking situations (expenses related to resolving these situations) this is the main one that comes to mind. There are other things too but I can't remember them. My husband works in the business/finance department that's why I know some of this stuff. If you sent an email via the website they could probably give you some more details. There is also now the MK fund which is being used for the Fanda MKs who want assistance. You may not know this Bemused but all the former properties where they had training in the US have been sold with the exception of one Baker I think. The property market is bad and no one wants to buy this property. All the missionary and linguistics training is now consolidated in Missouri. There are still 2 Bible Colleges and there is a recruiting center in Pennsylvania. Most of the money from sales of the properties has been put into Missouri and the other NTM facilities in the US.

It has been mentioned that NTM's land, buildings, and various other assets could be used to fund any legal liability. Perhaps. But, consider the possibility that some of NTM's larger gifts may have been given with conditions attached - for example, a donation may be given on the condition it is used for a specific purpose and if it is no longer used for that purpose, the grantor can reclaim the asset given...similar to a grant of real property using a fee simple subject to a condition subsequent where the grantor conveys a fee simple absolute but has attached a condition to the grant whereby if a specified future event occurs, the grantor can exercise his "right of entry" to reclaim the property.

There may be other legal structures in place that protect various assets.

Does anybody know whether this is the case?

If my rusty memory serves me right. Downunder used to have the Bible School and Boot Camp in Australia and the Language School on a dairy farm in New Zealand. The Language School was closed down and moved to Australia over 25 years ago. The land was returned to the farmer who donated it in the first place.
So your deduction that the land is tied to a specific purpose could well be right.

Pity they closed the Language School in New Zealand, it was the only part of the NTM experience that I actually enjoyed. It was quite an idyllic place for a kid to grow up in and seemed a bit more casually run.

The above statement was sponsored by The New Zealand Tourism Board. :o

You are right NTM had a school in Rooty Hill, N.S.W., Australia as a young couple from New Zealand attended there and was given permission to attend our church. I think Tuti Hess said it was closed down fully or partly, can't remember, because of lack of students.
