I'm hoping it won't be too much longer before you find out what we've been up to this year.

For the time being, let me just say that we have been doing some thorough research of our own (including some interviews). We've drawn up a plan of action, including several stages, and shared this plan of action with NTM leadership. A couple parts of the plan have already been implemented. At present we are working on the next stage.

Sometimes I feel our process is taking a long time. At the same time, we don't want to act in haste or for the wrong reasons. We want to do the right thing for the right reasons. We can not change the past or heal the hurting hearts of so many people. Only God can bring true healing. What we can do is to voice our disapproval of the way things have been handled and to vow to not be associated any longer with groups who continue to abuse people and to cover up their actions, groups who refuse to do the right thing.

These words are incredibly profound ... and worthy of some deep contemplation.

IHART's July update contains some interesting sentences. Theresa's words raise my expectations for what will be said in the promised Summary Report that will be made publicly available. I hope it is clear to IHART that by raising our expectations in this way, they will need to produce a report that lines up with what we have been led to expect. Theresa says the Panama report will be different than the Vianopolis report was. Let's hope so.

"IHART Progress Report July 2016

The teams are working diligently on the various aspects of the write-ups of both Bolivia and Panama. My main focus at this time for IHART is to finalize the Panama documentation.

For both investigations we plan a more comprehensive Summary Report than IHART has previously published. While it will not be a release of the entire report prepared by the respective investigative teams, it will contain extensive sections on information about history, culture and events that transpired during the time frame of the allegations in each country. It will describe the investigation and what the investigative teams discovered. As always, the identities of those reporting to IHART will be preserved, but we plan to include anonymous quotes from some of the interviewees who captured the emotions and perspectives of many. We believe this will let readers understand the weight that these situations still carry and how they affect peoples' lives.

In the past, NTM's communication to victims has not been very personal, because they do not know the identities of those reporting. This has felt somewhat cold to those receiving reports. I have encouraged NTM to personalize their communication going out to the greatest degree possible. This time, though still using redacted material, NTM is attempting to respond in a more personal way, still without knowing the identities of those reporting. We hope that the communication will feel more personal and will allow NTM to better express their regret, while still shielding the identity of those who reported.

We are making good progress on the Panama paperwork, although I do not yet have a final release date...."

Theresa has posted another update on the IHART website.

An excerpt:

"I had hoped to have a release date for Panama in this update but have not been able to determine that exactly, though we believe it is just a few weeks out."

She includes instructions for those who expect to receive a packet of information and reports resulting from the Panama investigation. IHART wants to verify your current address before mailing you a packet.

October's update on the IHART website indicates that survivors of abuse in Panama might actually be receiving their packets of reports and information soon:

"IHART would like to announce that the Summary Reports, Statements of Finding and accompanying letters are on their way to victim/survivors, alleged offenders, and the leaders involved with Panama."

Theresa also writes:

"However, we still need a number of addresses. I am committed to the privacy of every victim/survivor and will not mail a confidential report to an old, unconfirmed address. If you are expecting to receive a packet on the Panama investigation, but have not confirmed you address with us, please let us know your mailing address. We have your packet prepared and are waiting for a current address. Please use contact@ihart.care to update your US postal address." (So I am wondering .... will victim/survivors living outside the US not get a packet?)

In addition, for the rest of us, there is this paragraph:

"After the packets already mailed have had a reasonable length of time to reach their destinations, I will be posting the Panama Summary Report on this website, for access by all who are interested. The Report will able be able to be downloaded."

It looks like this is finally happening. The IHART investigation (a process of NTM) into MK abuse in Panama, which was opened in Jan 2012, is finally producing an end product, after almost five years of waiting.

It will be important to support the MKs who will be receiving "packets" with our prayers and thoughts. I have observed that the opening and reading of the documents produced by abuse investigations can be incredibly difficult, if not devastating, for the recipients. They will be remembering, reliving their abuse. It is very difficult when the opinions and perspectives of others get added to the mix. Especially when words like "alleged offender" are used. I hope the recipients of the packets are fortified for what is to come, and I hope that you know that the rest of us here on Fanda Eagles are standing with you.
