IHART Progress Report June, 2013 The Vianopolis, Brazil investigation began in May, 2011, The Bolivia and Panama investigations began in January, 2012. Following is an update on each investigation. Brazil: The scope of the investigation covers the fall of 1983 – summer of 1993. The investigation has ended and the team is busy writing the report and tying up loose ends. The Recommendations Panel has been selected – more on them as we get closer to their meeting.
Bolivia:
The scope of the investigation covers 1952 – 2004 when the school was closed. The investigators have revised their student list to 1023 student names to attempt contact, which includes some parents of MKs and staff as possible witnesses/survivors. This does not include other adult staff members. Of the 1023 names: 12 are believed deceased and 96 have been interviewed and 18 have declined interview or stated they have no information to share regarding abuse. Panama: - Pii is currently transitioning to the 3rd and 4th phases of the investigation. Phases One and Two include a thorough document review, interviews with victims, witnesses, and any additional research necessary to move to the final phases of the case. Phase Three includes interviewing the alleged perpetrators; Phase 4 is the writing of the final report. - Currently we are scheduling interviews with alleged perpetrators to begin in the month of June. There are a few remaining witnesses to interview, which will largely be conducted via conference call. The writing of the final report is well underway and will be completed upon the interviews of alleged perpetrators. -Pii is currently over 75% complete in Phase 1, 90% complete in Phase 2, just beginning Phase 3, and roughly 40% complete with Phase 4. -We project the completion of the investigation to be on schedule.
