When I look back at the missionaries I met in my childhood, most were no doubt doing their job or calling, but some on the main base were such bad fakes it stood out a mile that they weren't on the field for anything like "religous" motives. They were allowed to get on with whatever it was that was their agenda, until they eventually went on furlough and didn't come back. I remember my father raising the subject and even questioning whether some of his colleagues were even christians. At the time I thought it was an odd query, now I think he may well have been right and he did have considerable insight into what was going on around him. In his defense he was in a hopeless position, because he would have known that if he spoke out against them, he would pay the ulitimate price and he would be kicked out. Of course he eventually did get kicked out and maybe this is part of the reason for that, but again that is another matter where the truth has never fully come out and those that do know are ducking for cover, or have developed convenient memory loss.
