http://www.mksafetynet.net/ Abuse sent many MKs and their families on an ‘Unexpected Journey’. This conference will address actions and steps to help us move toward reclaiming our lives and breaking the silence. We invite you to come and join us to hear speakers ranging from professionals in trauma counseling, law, writers and MKs who are breaking the silence. This conference is intended for former MKs (Missionary Kids) and their families and friends. All keynote speakers and breakout sessions will address abuse and trauma experienced by former MKs with a view to breaking the silence of abuse and offering resources to move toward healing. Please be sure to return to this page often as we will be adding more conference details. A program listing speakers, topics and breakout sessions will be coming soon. Suspect there is more likelyhood of Turkeys voting for Christmas than money flowing from the coffers of Sanford, but nice thought. As for a Repentance Retreat, seriously???? Whatever happened to a hard floor, a set of worn out knees, a pen, paper (or in this modern age a laptop), a bucket for the tears (not Crocodile ones either) and a large box of tissues (self flagilation optional of course). Oh well I'll start saving my pennies.

Because the retreat was a Grace suggestion, that NTM agreed to follow, yes there is money set aside for it. But there won't be money there forever . . .we need to decide what we want. |

very interesting about the GRACE recommendation and the 'repentance retreat'. very interesting. mksafetynet would love to have you all there for the conference i'm sure. i hope it can happen for you guys. please keep us posted. |

Dear NTM, I live just South of the Black Stump, in Australia. So a train to Sydney would be $250 return. Then a flight to L.A. return $1500 and then to Chicargo $400. Throw in a nice hotel for a few days, lets say $3000 all up. Not a bad deal considering the grief NTM caused and the lost opportunities, relationship breakdowns, counselling and medical fees. I look forward to the checque arriving. Aussie

No expectations . . .really. No justifications necessary. My hope is for Christianese to be limited. No comb-overs, thick polyester pants, mandatory hymn singing (especially of the patriotic kind.)

I'm wondering, however, if the Repentance Retreat suggested by GRACE would only apply to students from Fanda?! Since GRACE was not contracted to investigate Via or other schools, would NT still pay for us to attend? |

Yes, I agree with your observation, hurt-n-hopeful. The "Repentance Retreat" was recommended by GRACE, specifically for the Fanda MKs. I believe they did this because another mission did something like that for their MK abuse survivors, so I think it sounded like a good idea to GRACE, and to at least some of the Fanda MKs, at the time GRACE published their recommendations after their investigation. This Repentance Retreat has never taken place. I get the impression there was not strong consensus among the Fanda MKs about the details of it, and it has never come together. As far as NTM paying for anyone to attend the MK Safety Net conference in Chicago next year, I am skeptical about the chances of them agreeing to pay anyone's expenses, and would definitely be surprised if they volunteered or offered to do so. One of the speakers at this conference is Boz Tchividjian. The founder of GRACE. Enough said. |
