Feeling kind of sad about the state of Christianity today, so much to be disappointed about, and in . . .does anyone have any current day heroes, anyone you absolutely love and respect? |

The Fanda Eagles, Jane Doe 7 and every single person who has posted on this site in support of justice. I am in awe of you all. |

Beth Moore is one of my modern day heroes. She's a survivor of abuse, very transparent and constantly talks of her own weaknesses instead of living in denial or trying to have an "acceptable" outward appearance of togetherness. |

Thanks. She seems to garner the respect of many. Maybe I should download some of her stuff . . . Anyone else? Dad had on Charles Stanley this Sunday, all about accountability. It was good stuff, could have helped some of those at Via. I would just never listen on my own. Authenticity I really prize . . . |

From what we have heard, Chas Stanley is pretty authentic. Been thru some tough times himself. He's pretty straightforward. His son, Andy Stanley is good too. We can always keep learning. Not everyone is a hypocrite! |

Maybe hero is too big a title. How about This: Who is the person you think of, when you say, "If he or she hadn't been there, I don't know what I would've done". How did they help you? |

Apparently heros are scarce these days. My personal favourite is Esther (not so recent, I know...). Questionable career choice at best, yet she managed to rescue an entire people group. Hmm... Wonder how NTM would have explained that one to the supporters. |

I'm changing the criteria: now--hero: any previous member of a controlling religious group, who has worked through, in an authentic brave way, to the place where they are happy and content, overriding fear and guilt Anyone out there? What did you do and how did you do it? |

Yah, I honestly think I'm there. I don't have fear and I don't have guilt. I am very happy with my life although always strive to grow and learn more. Grew up in NTM and as an adult spent almost 4 yrs in NTM then left. How did I do it? Honestly I don't think I could have done it if I didn't cut off the relationships that were hindering me. I have consciously only allowed people close to me who will challenge me and help me grow in a healthy way. I keep reading, listening, and interacting with people; always asking God to show me what He wants me to learn. |
