I can honestly say that I felt extreme rage this morning when I read this letter. Obviously having been naive at 18 years of age while talking to Scott Ross on the phone, I believed that he understood that I had been abused. My counselor sent a full report confirming the abuse. Interesting, that he only states that there were inappropriate actions. Once again there is proof that their only concern was to make sure that the leadership was seen in a positive light, "having dealt graciously and gently"..... While talking to my counselor this week, it took her about 10 minutes to say "he should have been put in prison". Notice she didn't say let me confer with several people and we will have 130 meetings wherein nothing will be decided. She has been working on another child abuse case and said that the man was just sentenced to 35 years in prison. I believe that is what so many on this forum need is validation. What Scott failed to mention was that those inappropriate actions were abuse. This letter just reminds me of what a sick world we live. Being pregnant, I have done so much reflecting on being the kind of parent that God wants me to be. I definitely do not have all the answers, but I want to raise kids who stand up for what is right and just!! We constantly remind our son to protect his little sister and watch out for her. Do we raise our kids in a bubble completely sheltered from the world??? No!!! They are with us when we work in the projects every week. We want them to grow up loving people, but also have common sense when it comes to really "bad people" in this world. WE want them to talk to us about everything no matter what it is. So if nothing comes from all of this, I hope to at least gain a better perspective on parenting. Last week, a girl in my neighborhood came running over, scared silly, because her mom's boyfriend was giving her the creeps. Even though she is 16, she knows that he is about to cross the line of abuse. I listened to her and then wasted no time confronting her mom. I explained to her that other adults had stood by in silence while my abuser carried on with his "inappropriate acts". I assured her that I would not be one of those adults in this girl's life. This mom has one option--- Break it off with the boyfriend and never allow him to go near her again. She assured me that this man had not touched her, but she recently started getting the creeps around him. The mom also confessed that she too was getting worried. I pray that all of us will be watchful and mindful of those around us. May we never be afraid to speak up for fear of hurting someone's feelings or jeopardizing a relationship. Excuse me for rambling, I'M JUST REALLY FIRED UP!!!!!!!

Courageous, that is not a ramble at all. That is your heart speaking. I love your ministry and I love that your children go with you. What precious life lessons they will learn. To look out for each other and to talk to you about everything. I love those especially. I had no one to talk to....that I trusted anyhow.

I have been watching, OT, for the male response to your challenge to the men who care about the many abuse survivors of NTM.

Silence (aside from Publius!).

And I wonder how many other men saw it.

Probably very few.

OT's challenge to men just made my heart sink a little lower. With the exception of one brother, who is too wounded himself to stand up & defend - no men in my family will ever hit one keystroke on this forum. EVER.
Publius, your anger and prayers have comforted my heart more than I can ever express. I know that you suffered yourself - and at whose hands - which makes your staunch defense and support of me all the more precious.
Thank you, my brother & friend.

Has anyone stopped to wonder if there are any real godly men out there who are led by the Spirit in the mission leadership. If there had been true godly men who were led by HIS Spirit, then they would have known Frank´s intentions and would have acted back in the early 80´s. The problem with the leadership back then and NOW is that they act on their own thinking and belief. Did you guys read what they keep saying? "If we would have had the info that we have now, it wouldn´t have happened." That is a bunch of _________ if you ask me. So I ask again.....ARE THERE NO REAL GODLY MEN OUT THERE IN THE LEADERSHIP WHO ARE LED BY THE SPIRIT? And of course the answer will have to be NO because a real godly man led by the Spirit would be broken over such nocious, sick, disgusting, stinking sin that continues coming out of this sore that the mission has covered over for years. Where is the repentance? Where are the tears? Where are the actions of repentive men for the sin that was and has been commited? Custe o que custar......will they not do what is necessary to right the wrong? Are they still worried about their IMAGE...whatever is left???? I and I think many others still wait to see.........

This is my first time posting on this website as I was blocked for some reason until now. I have been reading here for about a year and trying to sort out the chronology of this website. I am a MK from PNG in the 80's so I too have experienced much of what my fellow MK's have posted. In my opinion NTM is a cult. This would explain why the leadership has turned away from doing the right thing -- they are so entrenched in their own twisted doctrine.

Every bad thing that was done by an adult and subsequently exposed was covered up and NOT to be talked about. Seems the same philosophy remains today. I wish I had never been exposed to NTM!

Welcome fellow survivor of Numonohiwitz.

I agree entirely that NTM is a cult, namely because that is the route it has been taken down by it's leaders. Numonohi is a case in point, there was a core of men and women who were morally corrupt and who gained power of the school. Only the very brave dared take them on and they were generally despatched of quickly. It was easier to look the other way and claim to have no knowledge of what was going on.
The corruption then spread into the field committee and then back to Sanford (remember it was the former PNG field chairman who was responsible for the shredding of evidence). Have a look who is providing NTM with it's legal services and which field they were on.
Numonohi had operating within it a paedophile ring, the religious aspect was a cover for their activities, just like many other cults and groups have done.

Is this still going on at Numonohi? Who knows, but Gary Earl has only recently left PNG (his activities were known about for decades before he was forced out) and who knows who and what he left behind. And he wasn't dealt with properly at all.

NTM is a cult and a dangerous one. My advice to anyone still involved is to leave ASAP, unless you have the clear intention of making significant changes from within.

Welcome, Daisydone! I am so sorry you had problems getting registered on this site. There may be others who've run into the same frustration. I hope we can improve the situation soon.

It sounds like Numonohi in the '80s was really awful. And Bemused is right. Some of the men who were on that base during that period of time have risen to places of prominence in NTM. It is easy to see that it would be in their best interests to keep the widespread abuse of various kinds hidden from the world.

The same can be said about the despicable things that went on at the NTM school in Tambo, Bolivia during a certain period of time. Again, people who know about what happened there, or who were involved, or whose families were involved, now play key roles in present-day NTM. They are understandably frantic to protect their own position and reputation, or that of people close to them.

An enormous amount of energy, time and money is being spent to keep the dark secrets hidden. To keep the skeletons locked up in the closet. There is no question in my mind that the reason the children of yesterday are being treated with such contempt is that there are adults today who are protecting themselves from utter ruin.

But remember .... you can hide from your fellow humans ... but not from the Eyes of Heaven.

No, you will not hide forever.

Don't forget that.
