Because you are. It takes courage to think deeply about flaws in your own parents and your family, A painful process, and one most people flee from. It takes further courage to speak out publicly about your discoveries.

You are an inspiration, and I am so thankful you found us.

A new family! Still pretty dysfunctional, and all very imperfect. But it sure feels good to be home.

Wow, I thought that was just my parents. THEY DO THE SAME THING! They are your friend if it is a benefit to them. Wow!

Very interesting, that your parents do the same thing. I specifically asked my father if he ever formed any friendship other than to convert someone (or to help him in his cause) and he just replied "there is no other reason".
I doubt our parents were the only one with this philosophy. When I was a kid, NTM occassionally had an airplane out of action and had to use other missions services. For the duration of our need the said mission would be promoted to our "good friend" list, soon as we didn't need them, it was back down to the other heathen missions.

For me it is important to get inside my fathers head and see what makes him tick, as like it or not we are genetically programmed similarly, so to understand him is to in part understand myself. It also hopefully can give me pointers where I might go wrong in my own life. Happily although I look like my father, I'm more a kin to my mother in personality.

Dad loved to talk theology and doctrine around the supper table. One of my favorite ways to egg him on was to start asking what was "wrong" with the other missions and of course denominations. He didn't like the word wrong, but nonetheless used that as a teaching our superiority opportunity. After a long while he would realize that he was implicating himself and get quiet. But by then the dinner dishes were done, objective achieved.

Hey All Better, sounds like we are cousins . My father let the Christmas meal go cold as he explained the 14 names of God as translated from Hebrew into Greek, one year. And get him started on the evils of Catholosism, SDAs, JWs, Pentecostals, Homosexuals, Adulterers, Fornicators, unbelievers, backslidden believers, Hindus, Moslems, SIL, the Salvation Army e.tc. and it was instant cure for insomnia. Oh forgot Mormons, Charasmatics, Anglicans, Episcopalians, Closed Brethren . . .
