I grew up in a tribe where the men were tattooed from waist to knees with so much ink that from a distance they looked like they were wearing black spandex shorts.

Lots of opium smoked during those inking sessions.

Getting the NTM tattoo is cheap, it's getting it removed that is expensive, but well worth the cost and pain, because then you can live with your conscience in tact.

Personal integrity has been a goal of mine--I have found it hard in two places--in church, and at work. I particularly don't enjoy people praying for me, and if I'm ever honest, that's what they want to do. At work, in nursing, it's hard to give good care when you're overworked. So I've stopped going to church, and now do private duty nursing. Both rather isolating. Gotta work on that. Problem is . . .community is so tied in to church stuff in my head, it's tough for me to find true community elsewhere.

It's a tough one, when most of what you know is church related and you come to the realisation that you don't fit in there anymore. Sometimes it is best to have a break for a while, work out what it is that you really want in life and what is important and then relook at the church question. Don't beat yourself up, you are doing what is honest for you and that is a good thing.

Re tattoos, no I wear genuine lycra cycling shorts, not tattooed ones . And the NTM brand is faint and just a reminder that whatever life throws at me, it will probably never be as weird or heartbreaking as the strange NTM adolescence. For now I have someone who loves me warts, doubts and all and are no longer surrounded by those in my life who were trying to break me because I could not be what they want wanted me to be.

Actually I confess there are still remnants of my tattoo there.

I have tried to cover it over with a bunch of hearts, smiley faces, and scroll work.

I can still make out what's underneath though.
